"I do!" said Sterling with a smile, "Take as much time as you need, Lieutenant. Lord Tolan still has a few cobwebs to clear out of his head, and by the time you return with their escort, he might be ready to travel."

Judging by how fast Tolan was gulping a tankard of rainwater, it wasn't cobwebs in his head that he was trying to clear... it was the taste of the Cannard in his mouth.

"Thank you, sir!" replied the Lieutenant with a smile, as he disappeared through the tent flaps.

Looking at Lord Tolan and Lady Kirriam, Sterling sighed almost hopelessly, "He's a young Drow in love with a Human! What can you do?"

"You do nothing," Kirriam sighed with a smile. "Make sure that each remembers their duty, and then everything will fall into place as it is ultimately meant to be. After all, our great-great grandfather was a Wood Elf in love with a human. I personally am glad that no one tried to sway his affections away from my great-great grandmother, else such a sweet little angel as myself would not be here today." Tolan choked very loudly on his rainwater as Kirriam batted her eyelashes innocently.

"But as for Skull?" she continued. "Why, my dear Captain, whatever do you mean by 'leaving him to my tender mercies?' I wish only to give him a very special little gift, nothing more. It is a surprise, just for him."

Over on the cot, Tolan whimpered in hopelessness. He knew enough about his sister's 'surprises' that he dreaded to even witness one. "Whatever you're doing, Skull will kill you," he warned.

"No, he won't," Kirriam assured, but looked at Sterling for confirmation of this.

"If he doesn't, then I WILL! Tolan muttered, clearly having had it up to here with the stunts his sister was pulling.

"I think not," she said archly. "Now you seem to be feeling well enough, find your legs again and let's get moving!" Pushing back the tent flap, she looked around for where the Drow might have taken her horse.
