“Good! Turn yourself in then! See if I care!” Cole yelled out as Kryschenn headed for the town of Macula. He didn’t really mean to come off sounding so hateful, but it felt like the right thing to say at the time. As she trailed out of view, Cole began thinking while redoing the leather bandage over his hand. Their heated discussion came about all because he was didn't tell her what the symbol on his hand meant for him. Would it really have been so bad to tell her what was wrong? It's not like he was so confident in his powers that he felt he could do without a little more extra help. He just didn't want to see the others get in harm's way just for his sake.
Cole looked at the sword belt still on the ground with a lot of concern. Kryschenn was so upset that the let it fall and just left it behind. She would be weaponless if she ran into some Orcs, or the Owlbears the group from Macula encountered on their way to the caverns. She was responsible for the deaths of nine Yarfellian Soldiers, the same people who were guarding the city of Yarfell and supposed to leave following the service for Kayla. The surrounding forest seemed to grow a little quieter as Cole found himself alone with his thoughts.
So she’ll going to turn herself into the Maculans, then? Hmm. Those troops from Yarfell should have left by now. Kayla’s service was a while ago. Wait! They were leaving, right? I mean, even though we never actually saw them leave, they really were going to go, right? You know what, maybe they could still be there. It’s not entirely impossible, I guess. Maybe they didn’t get all of their stuff packed up yet, or weren’t officially going to leave until nightfall or maybe they were just getting ready for much longer occupation of the town. If that were true, they could still be there when Kryschenn arrives to turn herself in. But she did kill their fellow soldier-types. They probably wouldn’t be happy to see her. If any of those soldiers were friends of those dead guys, they might want to get some revenge on her big time, maybe even kill her in order to avenge their friends’ deaths!
Kryschenn was gone though. He knew the general direction she was heading, but all this time they had been treading through the woods without a clearly defined trail leading back to Macula. She already had a good head start on him if he was going to follow her. Although disinclined to do so, he considered using the Stone to contact her and talk her into coming back with the others. He didn’t believe he could do it, recalling how mad she was with him when she left. His moral core eating away at him, he resolved to find go look for her anyway. Cole saw her belt on the forest floor and wasn’t about to just leave her sword for anyone to find. He picked up the sword belt and carried it by the sheath of the blade and moved the pouch containing his weapon to the back of his own belt. As interesting as it may be, the Mentalist unsure of the reaction the sword and stone could have together, and he wasn’t willing to find out just right now. Walking a little further, a few yards away, Cole discovered the piece of the magical staff that Kryschenn flung away when she tripped hidden within some brush. Reaching into the shrubbery, he retrieved the broken artifact. Now he just had to reach Kryschenn before someone or something could reach her. Without another word, Cole continued to walk back toward the clearing where Uni, Kalya, and the others would be found.
