Placing a comforting hand on his friend's shoulder, Sharky concluded, "I know you mean well, Psilo, but I place no more faith in magic than I do in Lolth! And I'm an atheist!"Psilo laughed. "You don't know what magic is, do you?"
Sharky shook his head, "No not really, but I've seen plenty of it to stay away from it. The further the better. Many of my men have been delt a raw hand when they rest their faith on magic. So you can count me out..."
Psilo continued, "Well allow me to educate you as to what magic is. After you've heard my explanation, you may actually think twice about it."
Sharky shook his head as if to say no, "Ok then, teach me O' Master of Magic. But I'm warning you, I doubt you can change my mind."
Psilo cleared his throat, "Uh, hmmm... Magic is energy that is within all living beings. Even you. When we die, the stored energy is released. Some people believe that this energy is our spirit or soul; leaving this world for the next or recycled into another life form. The truth is that the energy released by the dead collects into channels, called the Ley, and flows through out the universe. Unfortunately, there are very few people who can tap into into this magical source; such as Dungeon Master or Venger. Everyone else must either ask the forces of nature to grant them the power to cast magic or feed from those who have a direct link to the Ley."
Sharky watched Psilo curiously.
"Then there are those who steal energies from others to cast magic. This is a bad thing because you can very easily drain the host's lifeforce until he or she dies. The magic gain through this method is very strong and fades very quickly. More often than not, the caster wants to keep the magic levels constant and high, so he saps his own energy and slowly kills himself. Thus, not only does the magic user kill the host, but also himself. Where I come from, such a practice is punishable by banishment - which is worse than death," Psilo commented.
"Magic is within all of us. Even if we deny it's existance, it is still there..." Psilo's collar loosened slightly. "What the?"
