"After you prove yourself a good Lorekeeper," Validor said with a smile, "there's a few goodies I offer to my clerics...let me see, what were they?""Truth sheild," Zak offered.
"Oh, yes...I doubt she'd be interested in that one, unless she really enjoyed proving a point...it gives you a bit of an aura, see, such that folks know you as my cleric, uner my protection, and know your words to be true. But of course, you're not interested in being protected. Let me think now...you already have a good memory, and a big book....the Chamelion ability was always a favorite, before the Vallifreyans and their big red togas came to power..."
Zakiyah humphed and looked as haughty as she could. "It's only right that people SHOULD know a Lorekeeper when they see one. It reminds them of the--"
"Yes, dear, but there ARE times you'd do much better and get a clearer picture of history if you'd just blend in with the natives...and that's what I can do for you, make you look like an orc or a cloud bear or whatever you like. As long as you don't interfere, of course. No CHANGING the course of history, simply recording it. There's also the Restorative, very useful if the artifacts you've found are crumbling away. That only works in my designated temples, though. You're welcome to designate any place you like as a temple, by the way, though using Zaki's library would be far more convenient..."
Zak looked aghast at the thought of ANOTHER library. There didn't need to be ANOTHER library. There was already THE Library!!
"If you don't like that one, there's another little ability that lets you know if someone's telling the truth or not, fairly handy, though I don't trust that ability with just anyone, you know. Hmm....I can offer you some physical endurance abilities, because my Lorekeepers do travel the Realm. Zaki has her quill, but your quill is not magic- would you like Teleportation? Or would you prefer an enchanted quill?"
Zakiyah choked. "You didn't offer ME Teleportation!" she cried.
"I didn't need to," he replied mildly. "If she takes more than one Gift, I'll give you another, fair?"
Zak blushed and bit her tongue, mightily annoyed that War Scribe could make her THAT touchy in less than half an hour of knowing her.
