What the heck was going on here?!

As Kryschenn listened, it was all she could do to keep from gaping in disbelief. With that last rambling barrage of excuses, Cole had not merely made her suspicious, he had outright confirmed that there was something more wrong with his hand than just an ordinary wound. And the way he was dancing around the topic made her think that he knew even more than he was letting on.

Unfortunately, she also realized that he was so determined not to talk about it, that any more questions would get her nowhere. And at the moment, the situation was tense enough that she realized it would erupt into an argument or worse if she pursued it. She wasn’t quite sure why, though. If something was really wrong, she would have thought he’d want help, but for some reason he was outright refusing to answer her questions. So asking him anything further would be a wasted effort. As concerned as she was, she had to think of a different approach to get him to tell her what was wrong.

In the mean time, he had apologized, so maybe she should, too. "All right, I'm sorry," she said. "I didn't mean to annoy you. I guess I was a little too concerned, I wasn’t trying to get on your nerves. If you think it's going to be okay, you're probably right. Oh," she added with an apologetic grin, "and I kind of got the feeling I ticked you off with that 'Superman' comment earlier. I didn’t mean it as an insult or anything. See, the truth is, I’ve got a really big collection of comic books back home, and I’m actually a huge fan of superheroes. Your costume kind of reminds me of Superman,” she explained as she looked over Cole's black bodysuit and blue cape, boots and wrist wrappings with a smile. “Okay, that Stone thingy is more like the Green Lantern’s ring, but I can’t help it. I look at you and think, ‘There’s Superman. I mean it as a compliment. I like Superman. I hope you don’t mind.” Thinking about it for a moment, and hoping the Mentalist was no longer annoyed with her, she offered her hand to shake in a peacemaking gesture. “What do you say, is everything cool? Are we still friends?”
